The working group focuses on different areas of pharmaceutical chemistry and chemical biology, which range from research of the Alzheimer´s disease and chemical neuroscience to cardiovascular diseases. Hereby we develop new active substances and diagnostics for clinical practice as well as molecular devices for pharmacological research.
Research areas are especially:
Photopharmacology: Development of substances, which can be switched by light, whereby the pharmacological effect can be changed. Structures are Cannabinoid-, muscarinergic acetylcholin, serotonin- and other receptor ligands as well es enzyme inhibitors.
Natural substances as neuroprotective therapeutics and for the use as molecular probes to identify targets for the alzheimer´s disease.
Hybrid molecules, which combine different pharmacological effects to work synergistically on targets.
Positron-Emission-Tomographie (PET)-Radiotracer as diagnostics for diseases of the cardiovascular as well as the central nervous system.
We mainly achieve this by preperative organic synthesis, but also many in vitro-assays are performed at the working group by ourself. A variety of cooperation partners are based abroad and in the USA.
